Sega...am I missing something?
I
was told by someone that I shouldn't use Integers in my VB6 code, I should always use Longs, because "Integers are 16-bit, and since this code will only ever be run on a 32 bit operating system it is more efficient to use longs." I don't get this. Does this mean I shouldn't use Booleans unless I am using some

Are Longs better than Integers? I dont get this...
It was written before 32 bit, before COM, before just about everything that we now take for granted. There was originally no data access methods in VB as I have found that I am better off re-writing, as the style of how I approach a task is so much different, and so much more OOP than how I did things in VB6.

Am I really going to have to shell out more $$$ to Microsoft so that I can throw away this boat anchor that no one supports and get something that works? I'm really unhappy with the product. I'm hesitant to even ask, but is support better for Vista 64? It just irks me that I have to run 32 bit windows on a 64 bit

Hil all, Which is better and faster utilization of memory on Window XP 32Bit, is it One stick of 2 GB or Two sticks of 1 GM or Four sticks of 512 Mb Also which is better, Single Sided or Double Sided ? 2) Boot to 'openSUSE 10.3 32 bit' has a problem. GRUB can't find modules for kernel version that is used on 64 bit, but does not exist on 32 bit installation. In any case, I now understand GRUB a bit better and am using it on the MBR with the precautions we have discovered. Thanks, Paul --

I also think in some ways the Playstation is better than the Genesis; I came to that system very late (I think I had it before I had a PSX tho), A lot of people consider the 32-bit era to be the best in gaming history, and I can't say I don't slightly agree with them...but for me, personally, 16-bit is where it

No 32 bit color. I know most games do not use them, but I am really enjoying them on the web and desktop. I am telling you that JPG's, GIFs and such are mostly in 32 bit, and do look better. And it bothers me to give this up. But I have such good memories of the stability of my Voodoo3 card.

Win 3.11 better than 3.1?
11.11 is also quite a bit behind, but perhaps your hardware does not support 11.31, or perhaps jBASE does not? The 'bit width' is telling you that one part of the equation is in 64bit and the other is in 32bit. The +Z option produces 64 bit binaries on the HPUX compiler. I am not sure that you need JBCDATADIR set,

So basically I am asking will a PPro 200 run games better under Dos and Windows 95 than a Pentium 200 under dos and Windows 95? Although DOS is a 16-bit operating system, games have been getting past that for years with the use of 32-bit protected mode extenders (you've probably seen a few of 'em such as DOS4GW).

RPG's as a whole were better before the 32-bit era. I didn't enjoy FF7 either, I enjoyed FF3 on the SNES much more. There are more "good" RPG's on the 16-bit Im playing Xenogears right now and I absolutely love it and am curious how different/similar the golden oldies were? for example, how does chrono trigger

So either use com files or completely specify the exe header (16 or 32 bit) in the source code. Because of the simpler API and the com format, DOS (or V86 mode in Windows) is much better for learning assembler than Windows. I would even suggest to use real mode DOS because then you can use the processor debug

I am trying to go through and eliminate all 32 bit integers righ now (this is a pretty large hunk of code). But thought I would survey this group, in case it is something naive I am missing. If it produces better code then that is a piece of evidence indicative, perhaps, that gcc isn't emitting good code.
